      Middletown author V. Thomas Hoban will present a 9/11 memorial program at the Middletown Main Library, 55 New Monmouth Road, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16. A life-changing experience near the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, inspired Hoban to write a letter of love and appreciation to his family, which became the basis for his newly published memoir, “The Letter.” The program will take place in the library’s Computer Lab.       Harvest Home Festival, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 26 at Longstreet Farm on Longstreet Road in Holmdel, allows visitors to enjoy an old-fashioned country fair reminiscent of the 1890s. The event will feature wagon rides, games, live entertainment, and demonstrations about farm life at the turn of the last century.       At 8 p.m. Sept. 24, the Middletown Township Cultural & Arts Council (MTCAC) will host an electric night of live music by the Josh Zuckerman Band to support the MTCAC’s seventh annual Achievement in the Arts Scholarship Program.       From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 19, Peter Conte Salon and Spa, 128 Main St., Matawan, will host its third annual Cut-A-Thon to benefit Michael’s Feat, a local charity that helps families caring for seriously ill newborns in Monmouth and Ocean counties.       During the July Fourth holiday week 11 members of Lincroft Presbyterian Church’s Youth Group participated in a mission trip to Philadelphia’s Fishtown district. Among the community-service projects, the group sorted clothes at a thrift shop, took care of children at a child care center, and visited with senior citizens.

      During the fifth-grade celebration ceremony at Middletown Village Elementary School, students presented a class gift of school supplies for children in Iraq to graduateAbbey Thorpe for her community service project. Accepting the supplies in memory of their son, U.S. Army Lt. Dennis Zilinski II, a graduate who was killed on Nov. 19, 2005, while serving in Iraq, are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Zilinski, who established the Lt. Dennis W.
