      Milestones just what the doctor ordered for Hawks
            Just a week after a humbling loss to a top team in the Northeast Conference, the Monmouth University football team needed a pick-me-up. That is exactly what the Hawks got, too, as they were able to celebrate a hard-earned 10-6 win over Bryant University, as well as a pair of milestones for the program.

      Colts rule SC x-country behind Mazzaccaro
            The venue changed, but, not the result. Christian Brothers Academy's Mike Mazzaccaro won his second championship race in 12 days on Saturday, capturing the Shore Conference Championship, which was held at Bucks Mill Park in Colts Neck.

            All former Lion wrestlers, coaches, family and friends are invited to the first Black & Orange Wrestling dinner to be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 23 in the Middletown High School North cafeteria. All current and former wrestlers and coaches will be part of the program. Tickets are $12 in advance and $20 at the door. Children under age 5 will be admitted free.

      Middletown Patriots cap three tourneys
            The U13 Middletown Patriots soccer team captured the championship at the Hazlet Columbus Day Classic Tournament. After preliminary wins against Middletown United FC, US Parma Vittoria and a tie with the Battle of Monmouth Wanderers, the Patriots won against the Battle of Monmouth team in the championship game.

      Hornets look to extend championship streak
            The Holmdel High School field hockey team will be looking for its third state championship in as many years as it begins play this week in the NJSIAA North 2 Group II Tournament. Coach Karen Baldwin's team, which earned a first-round bye, was slated to meet Raritan in a second round game on Tuesday.
