      An accident waiting to happen

Route 520 (Newman Springs Road) in Lincroft has become a daily accident waiting to happen. Driving a school bus on this route for five years has become a daily challenge in traffic safety survival.

Rarely do I discharge schoolchildren without a vehicle running through my school bus stop/red safety lights. Traffic accident and fatality history clearly shows this stretch of road is a death trap. Last year two young adults were killed on a corner at which I stop every school day. Speeding on wet roads was said to be the cause.

My experience has shown that only after a serious accident does the Middletown Police Department provide visible police protection for a short period of time. Local citizens groups with accompanying public outrage and select Lincroft planning groups, etc., have had little or no impact in getting and keeping police safety law enforcement in this area.

What does it take to gain a visible police presence in this township sector? Unfortunately, we all have short memories until the next serious incident. Do we wait for the next fatality - this time perhaps a young child? Wake up, Middletown.
