Residents don’t want to live at ‘gateway to dump’

The application to expand the Marpal Inc. (Republic Services) dump facility on Wayside Road, Tinton Falls, should be denied. The request to expand is to further assault the quality of life of every resident who lives in the area of this facility and every resident who lives along the roads that provide access to this facility.

Furthermore, the property values of every homeowner along these roads are compromised by the ever-escalating volume of truck traffic generated by Marpal on these residential neighborhood roads.

Lines of speeding Marpal garbage trucks from before 6 a.m. until late in the evening along Wayside Road, Tinton Avenue and Sycamore Avenue — all in Tinton Falls — and Swimming River Road, Middletown-Lincroft Road, Church Street and Kings Highway — all in Middletown — are not conducive to public safety or quality of life. Responsible government — both local and county — should deny any expansion of such a facility. Any approval would reek of disregard for anyone or anything except corporate profits.

Marpal (Republic Services) exhibits the attitude that because it collects garbage in some of the surrounding communities — for which it is well paid — it exempts it from responsibility for its actions in our communities. Disregard for area residents from speeding Marpal garbage trucks is rampant along our local roadways. Respect for local speed limits is rare or nonexistent.

It would be irresponsible for our local and county officials to approve any expansion proposal that would further exacerbate traffic conditions on our already overburdened local roadways.

Area residents deserve consideration and quality of life. We did not invest in homes to now find ourselves on the "gateway to the Marpal dump." I ask all local and county officials who have a say to vote down any expansion proposals for this facility.
